Mountain Home
Maintenance Guide
Proper care and mountain home maintenance requires regular inspections and seasonal upkeep to ensure safety, energy efficiency, and protection from the elements. As a client of Mountain Home Services we provide these services ourselves and through our licensed sub-contractors
Exterior & Structural Maintenance
Roof & Gutters:
Inspect the roof for damage caused by snow, ice, or sun exposure. Clean gutters and downspouts regularly to maintain proper drainage and prevent blockages.
Foundation & Draft Sealing:
Look for cracks in the foundation and seal any drafts around windows and doors with weatherstripping or caulk to improve energy efficiency and prevent heat loss.
Plumbing & Heating Systems
Protect Pipes:
Insulate exposed pipes in crawl spaces, basements, and exterior walls. Drain outdoor faucets and sprinkler systems before temperatures drop below freezing.
Heating System Maintenance:
Have furnaces and wood stoves professionally inspected and serviced before winter. Ensure all components are in good working order.
Thermostat Settings:
Keep the thermostat set to at least 50–55°F when the home is unoccupied to prevent frozen pipes, especially during outages or extreme cold.
Safety & General Maintenance
Alarms & Fire Safety:
Test smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, and fire extinguishers to ensure they are working properly—especially important during peak heating season.
Pest Control:
Check for signs of pests or rodents and seal any entry points to prevent infestations.
Driveway & Road Access:
Keep private roads and driveways clear and maintained to ensure safe access year-round, especially after storms or heavy snow.
Routine Inspections:
Schedule periodic inspections of your HVAC system, plumbing, and septic system to identify and address issues early. That’s where we come in! As a client of Mountain Home Services, we provide these services with our licensed sub-contractors
